![]() ![]() Economically speaking, being responsible for 12% of the national Brazilian GDP and double the GDP per capita of Brazil, it is the leading national metropolis. The tool allows each city to see how they compare to other cities in their efforts to reach the goals.1 São Paulo is the biggest city in Brazil and, with its metropolitan region, one of the largest agglomerations worldwide. The color classification demonstrates how close the city is to achieving the goal. The results are displayed in a visual dashboard with a color system. The tool uses the same indicators for all cities to create equitable scores and clear ranking of each city’s progress. The tool assigns each municipality a score between 0 and 100 to show how much improvement can be made by the city. For example, the tool indicates large territorial inequalities in progress, indicating areas in which more attention and assistance needs to be prioritized. The tool also helps draw attention to challenges in reaching the SDGs in each city. The index focuses on the local action required to achieve the SDGs. ![]() The index uses a set of SDG targets and indicators specific to Brazil in order to aid the Brazilian municipalities in setting priorities unique to the region. The index takes complex technical data and presents it in a simple and easy to understand way, allowing the public to understand the data. This monitoring aids in guiding government priorities by highlighting gaps and challenges present in reaching the SDGs. The index establishes a public tool for monitoring SDG implementation action. It is an opportunity for cities to integrate the most advanced global sustainable development agenda. With this, we hope to generate an effective transformation movement in Brazilian cities, guide municipal political action and define references and goals based on management indicators. Based on more than 80 indicators, the index assigns, for each municipality, a specific score by objective and another, the final classification score of cities, for the set of 17 SDGs. The Sustainable City Development Index (IDSC-BR) is a tool to encourage and monitor the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Brazilian cities. ![]()
